How/Why did you get into music?

I always sang, since I can remember. Both of my older sisters were very into music and one used to sing with me all the time. My dad was a jazz freak. He listened to Frank Sinatra, Count Basie and lots of big band music (I was named after Stan Kenton). My dad sent me to take guitar lessons when I was 8-10 and I took cello too, but when we moved I stopped taking the lessons.
I always listened to lots of music and I spent a lot of time mimicking a lot of different singers (I used to use the reflection of the windows in my bedroom to perform to at night).

Those were my familial musical roots, but I got into being a musician hardcore when I was 15 and I had to wear a back brace for a year and was forced to quit all sports. I was big into hockey and baseball, but when I had to give them up, I basically locked myself in my room and taught myself how to produce and write and re-taught myself how to play (because I could already sing).

When I realized I'd get more attention from girls when they saw me sing and play, that was basically it for me. Music all the way.

What are your goals in music?

My goals have changed. It used to be to show off or get girls.
Now my goal is to create with truth and sincerity and to connect with people using my abilities.
Also, to have fun and play and discover.

Last question...

If you were on a deserted island what are the top three things you would want with you? ^.^

I'm assuming I'd be stuck there a while (alone) and I couldn't wish for a helicopter with a pilot and some tacos for a speedy trip home...and also, I'd hope there'd be fresh water and food sources so I could focus on fun things for this question besides survival, SO:

An acoustic guitar with awesome sounding unbreakable and rust-proof strings
A BIG notebook
A pen that wouldn't run out
